Messed Up Icons With iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 5

With the latest release of iPhone OS 3.0 seed 5, the icons of the applications are being messed up. This mostly occurs when we install updates to the applications from App store. Few applications will not have any icons altogether, few apps have icons of their neighbouring apps like shown in the figure. iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 is lot more buggier than beta 4 or beta 3. Also I have observed beta 5 drains the battery very fast. My iPhone lost more than half of its power over night even without performing any tasks while lying idle. Seems Apple has purposefully made beta 5 buggy so that users are forced to move to the final version expected in the WWDC.

On the screenshot we can observe that, PingPongLite application doesnt have icon at all and NewsPro and Bloomberg have same icons.

However on a positive note, if we restart the iPhone, all icons are restored to their original application icons.

Update:

The messed up icons issue has been fixed with the latest iPhone OS 3.0 GM build. Also with the GM build my iPhone runs relatively for a longer duration on a full battery charge than what I used to get with beta 5. (But still I feel 3.0 is consuming too much of battery than 2.2.1)

FYI – I am experiencing this as well. I have the iPhone 3G S w/ v3.0. It occurred when I pressed the home button within the BOA mobile banking app. I removed the app, turned off the phone, turned it back on, sync’d it, reinstalled the app through iTunes, re-sync’d, restarted… All with no success. Now, I’m grumpy.

I haven’t experienced this problem after I moved to iPhone OS 3.0 GM build. It was a common occurrence on 3.0 Beta 5. Mine is a iPhone 3G. Not sure if this bug is still there for iPhone 3GS.

Same problem. For about a third of my apps, the icon is half white. Some of the icons have been switched. I have restored with the latest software and the same problem re-occurs. Also, deleting a problem app and downloading again from the app store has not worked either. The only thing i can think of is that I switched the sim card w/ my old 3g phone rather than activate the 3gs through at&t.

I dont think it’s a problem with any specific application. It’s a bug with iPhone OS rather than any 3rd party application. Moreover I haven’t seen this bug reoccur after I have moved to iPhone OS 3.0 GM build for my iPhone 3G.

Have exactly the same problem on my new 3GS phone with O2. One day everything was fine next the icons are all messed up. The Apps still work but just really annoying.

just delete one of the applications and go to the application store and downloaded again. When start downloading again turn off your phone. When it finished the downloading you will have all your icons back.

On your iPhone remove an app that has incorrect icon (preferably one that has no data stored on your iPhone). Download and install the app again from the App Store. As the application is being installed, hold the power button and turn off your iPhone. Turn your iPhone on and you will have all applications icons back to normal. The application you were installing is installed as well. Works for me, hope for you too! Good luck!
